Bushfire Victim Took Revenge On 1000 Park Trees
The passage of time had doused the initial rage that engulfed Victorian farmer John "Monty" Skehan when a bushfire destroyed his property in January. But even the cold rain outside Myrtleford court seemed only to dampen - not deaden - his anger. Skehan, 46, pleaded guilty to charges arising from his post-bushfire chainsaw attack on about 1000 trees in a national park adjoining his property near Beechworth. ... He maintained that more than half the trees he cut down were dead or burnt sticks and that he did it "to protect my property the next time there's a fire". |
